Yep, been using this trick for years on romplers and digital stuff. One very
nice effect that can help get the unison thing going is to use the Free Envelope
Generator for a bit "other random" out of tuneness. Since there is no true
random in the digital world (and IIRC on the AN1x it's no exception) it's good
to map out of tuneness through something human like velocity, since nobody plays
every note identically.
