Synths in general get too shrill. VAs more so. It's not just the high
end of the spectrum, synths can quickly overwhelm a mix. You have to
learn how to comp around the singer and the guitar, use 2 note
chords,one finger leads,thin out your sound. Those unsion dual pads
with fm and everything else just turn the mix to mud.

I have a nice spectrum analysis picture of the AN1X that I'll have to
dig out and post. You can see there's energy filling the whole
spectrum. Not much space for anything else.
