The AN1x wasn't in production for very long. My ∗guess∗ is the AN1x
was produced from late '96 until sometime in mid '98. As great as a
board as it was (is) the AN1x was routed in the market place by Roland,
Clavia and subsequently Access and Novation.

Waaaaay back wheeeen attempts were made by many of us on the original
AN1x list sponsored by Teklab (now Ampfea) to narrow down a range of
serial numbers for AN1x boards affected by this defect - we were
unsuccessful. BTW, the bug manifests as an audible 'popping and
clicking' that would occur at random intervals - often following start-
up, but I don't recall anybody ever claimed it crashed their unit. I
do recall other users identified the defect as occuring in DUAL mode.
While my board exhibited the audible noises, I don't recall it being
isolated to Voices in DUAL mode.
When I spoke to Yamaha Customer Assistance on this matter (back in '98
I think) they were forthcoming in acknowledging the issue and issued a
Return Authorization after which I had my dealer return ship the unit
to Yamaha on the West Coast (I live on the East Coast.) Yamaha affected
some sort of 'hardware modification' (their terminology) and the board
was returned to me in working condition and has not exhibited
the 'popping & clicking' ever since.
