Hi this is my first post to this list. Please excuse my shorthand, but let
us see if this can help.

I'm using an AN200 and AN Expert Editor to make a pulse width modulated
brassy strings.

Open AN Expert editor. The key is TAKE YOUR TIME!. Pick a stringy type
patch. You might have to turn all the editor knobs to zero out your
settings, so be patient.

Zero out the peg and lfos:

zero out vco1 peg atk 0 decay 0 depth 0
zero out vco2 peg
lfo detail as lfo1 does vco1 and vco2/ lfo2 does filter and amp
lfo1 speed 0 vco1 0 vco2 0
lfo2 speed 0 vcf 0 vca 0 wf tri
both lfo wf as triangle

Turn the noisemakers off:

turn sync off
make fm depth 0
turn off ring and fb
osc1 level 12:00 osc2 0 noise 0
make xmod = 0

Zero out the filters

set filter to lpf12
set fc at about 12:00
set resonance at 0
set keytrack at 12:00 (0)
set feg intensity at 2:00 (0)

Make vanilla envelopes

feg a 0 d 1200 s 1200 r 1200
aeg volume at 2:00
aeg a 0 d 1200 s1200 r 1200

Turn distortion and effects off

Beginning with VCO1:

set wf to pulse
set pitch to 0 and fine to 0
depth 9:00 PW 9:00 Edge 3:00
turn the pulse width knob pw - listen to animation
now assign lfo1 as source
set lfo1 wf to triangle
turn up lfo1 speed knob to 8:30
- listen to animation - adjust to taste
If you hear pitch wobble - set lfo vco1 to zero and listen

Go to VCO2

set wf to triangle
set pitch to 0 and fine to 0 or +2
set xmod 0
turn volume up to 12:00 - hear it get richer
change VCO2 wf to pulse, use depth 3:00 pw 3:00 and edge 12:00

you now have a thinner pulse under lfo1 control, and
you also have a fatter pulse under lfo1 control, which
equals lots of animation!

Now to filter

open filter cutoff to 1:00 - keep resonance off
set vcf intensity to 3:00 - adjust to taste - sounds a bit brassy
increase attack to about 2:00 - get a string attack
keep filter release to 12:00

Go to lfo2

set vcf to about 1:00 (11) not very much
set wf to triangle and speed to 10:00 -- more animation
adjust filter lfo to taste or turn off if too much
(lfo1 does vco1 and vco2, lfo2 does vcf and vca, remember...)

Go to vca

set attack to 12:00 and release to 1:00

SAVE as BrsPwmStg

You now have a brassy string. You can make it thinner by

reducing pwm depth, pw and edge
change vco2 wf back to triangle (reset xmod to zero)
turn lfo2 speed to zero
change filter to
reduce filter cutoff
decreasing feg depth
adjusting filter attack

Have fun -- I might post the patch,
but I think it's more fun for you to figure it out yourself.

Enjoy, good luck and please feedback,
