I've not had great success with compressors, Jimmy, although I admit the
hardware ones I tried were for the most part pretty junky. Even software
compressors don't seem to have enough range to work out the different levels a
synth can put out.
You could be our Guinea Pug - go buy one from a reputable dealer and try it out.
If it stinks, take it back... if it's nice but you can't afford it, have someone
else pay for it. ;l
I think because a good synth has such a huge bottom and top end (bass and
treble) it's hard for a compressor to squash the sound down to a lesser volume
without effecting the overall effect...
Ya might have to play this one by ear.
