I recall watching a TV programe about that ages ago...

What they did was overlay vocals on top of each other in the studio - more
than two hundred overdubs, if I recall - and the result was the only vocals
to match the lushness of, say, a Mellotron...but it was all analogue vocals,
with not a synth on sight! A bit hard to reproduce live, I reckon, well, not
unless you had an awful lot of backing vocalists!

10cc were a weird band - they wrote bubblegum pop, and yet were actually at
the forefront of musical creativity. They composed simple songs that were
complex essays on pop music - they were almost a parody of themselves -
possibly the Frank Zappas of English pop! Like the 'Gizmo' that Creme and
Godley invented which I think (I may be wrong here) was the first guitar
synth. Not bad of a two-bit pop band from Manchester:)

10cc albums worth listening to: '110cc', 'Sheet Music', 'The Original
Soundtrack' (prob. their best) and 'How Dare You'
Godley & Creme album worth "experiencing": 'Consequences' the 1977 triple
album showcasing the Gizmo - tres weird!!!!
