The AN1x doesn't use USB to send/receive patches (vocies). It's easy, but not quite drag-and-drop easy:
1. You need a PC/Mac-to-MIDI adapter for your computer. These days, the cheapest/easiest adapter is a USB-to-MIDI adapter. A 1-In/1-Out adapter can be had for around $30-40US. I'm partial to the Midiman 2x2USB, which costs about $60-70US.
2. Go to the manufacturer's site and download the latest drivers. Install them and reboot your system. The difference between the drivers that ship with the adapter and the latest drivers can be like night and day, especially on newer computer OS versions.
3. Go to the Yahoo site and download a copy of AN1xEdit for your computer (PC or Mac version) and install it. This is a terrific, commercial-quality editor and librarian specifically made for the AN1x. Run the program. Go to Setup -> MIDI Port Setup and select your MIDI adapter's In and Out ports.
4. Click on Select All (on the right) and Request to create a copy of the patches already in your AN1x. Save this file, in case you accidentally erase some patches you really want.
5. Most of the AN1x sounds that you find on the list and otherwise will be in .AN1 format, which is the native format of AN1xEdit. You can open multiple sets of files in AN1xEdit, then use the computer's Copy and Paste commands to move them into a new patch set. Then select the patches you want to send and hit the Send button. Caution: the patches will be sent to the same numbers as they are placed in the .AN1 file; be careful about overwriting patches!
6. There are many other features of the program. Use the Help menu to find out how to use them
Regards,
-BW
