Depends on what you are going to do.

I use a separate mixer before I feed the MOTU 24i. I use effects in the outboard mixer mainly from the dsp1024(behringer) which I can also control via midi ( I have a effect track in Sonar just for this). I also use dxi and vst plug-ins. I have nano-verbs and compressors for the outboard mixer (which is a behringer MX2004a)

I also use a BBE 482 as well.

I prefer mixing outside but I finalize using the internal mixer (in my case I use Sonar 3).

So.....Would I be better off NOT spending the extra
money on a mixer/effects board with 4 specific stereo
inputs. I was looking at a Behringer (forget specific
model) that was 16ch (4 dedicated mono inputs). Would
appreciate input on this as the wife is already
getting a bit antsy on the amount of cash I've input
on my new hobby.

Peace!
