There's a lot of vanilla boring synths out there, but there's some
positive steps. Maufacturers are beginning to understand the
importance of feel, remembering to put knobs and sliders on synths,
putting in resonant filters, adding more sample ROM. I'm seeing new
tube Echoplexs being built-dual manual keyboards with waterfall keys,
etc. Most people just play presets-no programming. They want radio
friendly sounds in abundance.
I want the fun of having all the tubes, strings, springs, walnut
cabinets all combined in a joyous unpredictable roar when cranked to
ear bleeding volume. I also want all the convenience of the new,
reliable, always in tune, much cheaper new stuff. We're not there yet,
but I think we're going in the right direction.
