Subject: Re: [AN1x] external midi controller

Hi All,

As one of the OT contributors in the last 24 hours, let me apologize to anyone who was upset by our discussion of poly-AT and USB keyboards. It doesn't happen too often on this list, thanks to the policing of the moderators, and the general good will of the group. As long as it stays occasional and friendly, I think a little OT now and then is acceptable. I founded another musical list five years ago, which also veers into OT now and then. As moderator for the first four years, I tolerated a certain amount of it, as does the current moderator. I still think it's acceptable, but YMMV. If the group as a whole is bothered by these sidebars, maybe we should end them, but my vote would be to continue to tolerate a small amount of them.

I think the analogy of sewing and race cars, however, is probably a stretch. It's more like diesel engines and race cars: It's not directly relevant, but related in a roundabout way. You may have no intention of ever owning a diesel-powered race car, but there are some related threads that might explain why no one is racing one in a Formula One car, for example. It's the same with poly-AT and the AN1x -- or the EX5 and the AN1x, or the Minimoog Voyager and the AN1x, etc.

Regards,

-BW
