You should already have all the hardware you need. I use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, rather than Sonar, but the setup should be similar. Properly configured, the MIDIman 4x4 USB should actually provide 4 "MIDI interfaces" to the operating system, labeled IN-A, IN-B, OUT-A, OUT-B, etc. In the menu of Cakewalk there is a section called Options --> MIDI Devices; you should have something similar in Sonar. You need to select (highlight) all four inputs and all four outputs. This tells the program to use all of the ports.

At this point, the inputs will all be merged together into one bit stream of data; any input on any of the four ports should reach any item in the sequencer that you wish, or all of them at once.

Now, you should be able to go to a track or SysEx dump item, change it's (output) port, and access any of the four MIDI ports by name and/or number. If you're smart, you will rearrange the items in the output list until OUT-A is port 1, OUT-B is port 2, etc. to make it easier to remember what's what.

A similar thing can be done in AN1xEdit, Cubase, etc. The important thing to remember is that you don't have to match up a MIDI In with the same MIDI Out. For example, I use IN-A and OUT-B with my AN1x and AN1xEdit, which actually seems to be more reliable with my Win2K system and pair of MIDIman 2x2 USB interfaces. (Yes, you can gang up to four of them together, and Windoze will sort them all out.)

I hope this helps.

Regards,

-BW
