Archive of the former Yahoo!Groups mailing list: The Yamaha AN1x Synthesizer mailing list

I just wanted to take a moment to let the list know what happens behind the scenes
when the occasional spam email get's through:

1st, we send off an offline reply - a friendly email informing unsolicited advertisments
are typically unwelcome on AN1x-list and to please check with the list moderators in
advance whether your solicitation is suitable.

2nd, their membership status is changed to moderated and they are no longer
permitted to upload to the File section (this prevents the back door approach.)

3rd, the offending post is deleted from the list archive. If there was an option on
Yahoo! Groups to recall the undelivered post from list members we'd use it ;-)

4th, if they continue to post inappropriate material (which doesn't get through since
they have been moderated) AND fail to acknowledge any of our offline
correspondence their membership status is changed to banned :-( Ouch.

On occasion, responsible individuals have asked in advance whether they may post to
the list - if it's of potential benefit to the list, no problem. FS/FA/WTB posts are okay
too - so long as it's not abused. We've never had a problem with that on AN1x-list
(unlike some lists.)
