Yamaha makes a MIDI Data Filer (MDF3) for this purpose. From
http://www.yamahasynth.com/"The MDF3 provides quick, simple and portable data storage of
MIDI data from synthesizera, samplers, tone generators, drum
machines, sequencers, signal processors or other MIDI devices
with bulk dump capability, on handy 2HD or 2DD floppy disks.
Straightforward realtime MIDI data recording and playback
features let you dketch out musical ideas quickly. Build-in
support for both SMF formats (0and1) lets you play back files of
sequences created on a separata sequencer or a computer.
Batterypowered for flexibility in the field, the MDF3 is right at
home in any MIDI setup, whether used as an ideal data stronge
companion for a single MIDI device or an indispensable MIDI
data filing workhorse in even the most complex of modern music
systems."
I would wager the RM1x or RS7K also provide for SysEx bulk
dumps too.
Alesis once manufactured a device similar to the MDF3 called
the "Data Disk" - you might score a low price on a 2nd hand unit
from eBay but given the relative age of the unit you'll want to
inquire on whether the disk drive has been replaced - or is it
even serviceable at this late date.
Given the ever declining cost of laptop cmputers you might weigh
this as an option vs. a desktop computer when it's time for you to
upgrade.

No, but I would hazard a guess the Kenton units and Kenton's
support would pair nicely with their Plugstation unit :-)
