Subject: SV: [AN1x] vintage sound

Jimmy, was this in response to something or just an observation?

The reason I asked is, I know from mixing that ear fatigue can play some real tricks on a person over en evening of listening (especially when tuning and refining a mix or patch)...

Usually though it goes the other way. Ever get up in the morning after a late night (with no alcohol involved) get in the car and be amazed at how loud you left the radio or stereo on?

This is because you had to raise the volume over the course of the drive, because your hearing tends to change over time...you wake up fresh and the ears are again not fatigued and it suddenly all sounds too loud.

It gets worse as you get older. I have made patches or done mixes over the course of an evening, where I finally got it just right, woken up the next day and found it was not a good mix or patch at all.

If you are listening to speakers to judge the result it may also be other factors like relative humidity, etc. but if this is all in headphones then it shouldn't play a part.

I get around this by saving at least a few times throught the process any sound that is close. If I am mixing I will always save off the first mix (a lot of times it turns out to be really close to the best, if not the best) and any other temporary mixes in between. Same with a patch. I have found later that one of the earlier tries was the best one.

Course...I could have misunderstood your point and be off base here.

Jim
