I took it to my local dealer and apparently there's a little resistor that
helps in the amplifier stage on each output. The one for the left channel is
"gone" and needs to be replaced. It's a Yamaha specific part. SO, now I am
without the AN1x for 2 weeks :-( and after an estimate of $60CAD.

don't recall a specific, one cure fits all, solution to the problem. I
would assume a hardware repair needs to be affected by a
Yamaha Service Center.
I have no data or proof to back up my opinion but I believe the
problem you describe might be the advanced result of the
audible 'popping and crackling' bug which affected any number
of AN1x synthesizers when the unit was relatively new back in '97
& '98. My unit was affected and Yamaha readily acknowledged it
as a hardware issue. I had the repair performed while under
warranty and have not had any issue since. Of course I may very
well be wrong but that's my take on the problem ;-)
