Go -- GO you manic basser!
Love these ideas Mr. Rainbow comes up with.
For Jerry about the bass creations:
I think that the AN1x suffers a bit from "digital peaking" on a few
parameters. Remember, EVERYTHING inside this synth is
numeric/mathematic/arithmetic/digital/whatever-you-want-to-call-it until it
gets to the final D/A converters. A couple of parameters I've found that
can overload way before they are "maxed out" by their settings are Feedback
and VCA Volume. We have to take into consideration that the developers were
trying their best to make the synth as versatile as possible, so the reason
that the Feedback control can go all the way to 64 (IIRC) is that with some
settings of the previous stages, the 64 wouldn't cause any problems and have
a pleasant effect. But, due to the additive nature of some of the numeric
thingies we can do, sometimes the Feedback stage is already receiving a very
high input signal (remember, these are all numbers, not voltages so what I'm
saying is that it's getting a numeric level close to the maximum value it is
programmed to handle). So how do we deal with this? With our ears, since
there's no way to monitor the internals of the signal development. Just try
backing down on the amplitude of some parameters and giving it a good
listen. Then dump the final result through a compressor if necessary to get
the volume up to a useful level.
