Well, the Yamaha AN1X is certainly a great synth that will satisfy your
programming hunger. BTW, there's a FREE editor for this baby and may I
say, the editor by it self is worth AN OSCAR, not in a million years
will I use SoundDiver (which IS good BTW) to program this blue beauty.
IMHO, it is a great virtual analog synth that can do nice basses, pads,
strings, well all the things a good VA should be able to do.
You've already a lot of experience taming your Alpha Juno 2 but you'll
see that the AN1X is a lot easier to program, even for a novice synth
user.
Of course there are a lot of other VA's out there, that have the same
sonic potential (or better) but not many can offer the same sonic
possibilities a the same price. And today, here in Belgium anyway, they
come very cheap second hand. I've seem them changing owners for less
than 250 EUR but usually they go between 250 and 500 EUR. A small price
for a lot of synthesizer pleasure.
You can always listen to the online audio fragments at
www.yamahasynth.com to give you an idea. But if possible you should try
to find a local shop or a AN1X owner in your neighborhood, how a synth
sounds is always a personal opinion and only YOUR ears can tell you how
it sounds to you.
BTW, did you know that the AN1X actually comes in several flavors? You
can choose between the:
AN1X => keyboard version,
AN200 => desktop version,
PLG150-AN=> plug-in board for an CS6X
You can read all about them at www.yamahasynth.com to see which flavor
would suite you most.
Of course the AN1X is NOT a 'regular' ROM-pler like for example the
JV/XV-series from Roland, those are more for fast access to sounds like
guitars, flutes, organs, harps,... you know, presets (although they
sound very good) and lesser for programming sounds (but is possible
though).
But if you're looking for a synth that will give you those analog (or
emulation) sounds that you're looking for, you could buy a real analog
synth but could also settle for a nicely priced VA like the AN1X which
also weighs a lot less, even compared to other VA's.
The AN1X is definitely worth checking out.
Any negatives to report? Probably but I did not find any yet :),
needless to say that I'm very happy with my AN1X. Perhaps you could soon
be in that same position ?
