Subject: Proposal for AN1x Voice contributions
From: "jondl_2000" <jondl_2000@...>
Date: 2002-07-28
It's been awhile since anybody has contributed their own,
original AN1x Voices to the Files section myself included. I
propose we make a group effort to conduct a biweekly voice
create/contribute over the next few months (I hesitate to use the
term 'patch competition' because I fail to see how it adds any
value to the effort.)
The 'Voice Creation Examples' found on Pages 101108 of the
AN1x Owner's Manual will serve as the overall theme for our
original Voice contributions. I suggest this for two reasons: First,
so list members with varying levels of experience programming
Synthesizer patches have an opportunity to contribute. By using
the Voice Create Examples as a kick-off point this provides
everybody a chance to get 'hands on.' Please, don't be so
obvious as to submit one of those voices verbatim from the
manual make some tweaks to the sound! Second, these
types of sounds are common and useful and leave plenty of
room for interpretation by those who choose to program their
Voices from scratch. I'd encourage the participants not to
overlook the possibilities afforded by the FreeEG, Step Seq, and
Control Matrix to really make their sounds 'sing!'
Voice type | Due Date
Synth Bass| August 1011
Strings| August 2425
Electric Piano| September 78
Electronic Organ| September 2122
Synth Brass| October 56
Synth Lead| October 1920
If the list membership remains interested after a few months of
this effort I'd suggest we extend through November as follows:
Synth effect/Sound effect| November 23
Percussive| November 1617
After this point we start running into the holiday season and
people will have less time and inclination to participate.
I'll set up some sort of directory structure in the Files section
here at Yahoo! Groups to accommodate the biweekly
submissions. Obviously .an1 format would be preferred but if
you're limited to .syx or .mid for technical reasons don't worry
about it one of us can always download, convert and upload
the voice as .an1 afterward. I'd ask that you compress your file
using .zip to conserve disk space and expedite upload/download
times. And it you contribute one time and not the next time - that's
okay too. The idea is to have some fun, learn some new tricks
and reinvigorate our Voice library!
Tip: Voice Initialize Page 97 AN1x Owner's Manual
Normal (all settings normalized)
Synth Bass
Brass
Strings
E. Piano
Organ
Sync (for solo lead type voices)
PWM (for pad type voices)
You can use the above as a start off point without bothering with
the Voice Creation Examples if you prefer just stick to the
themes outline above.
Let me know what you think of the idea.
regards,
Jon
