Mine (the second one) is also a PCI 128. The thing is it has the same problem as the original (SB16) card that was in that I had once got to work halfways.

Thanks, that would be a huge help!!

The thing I began wondering is...if the hardware card starts polling right away until it really gets init'ed, or if it may act unpredictably until init'ed... It may be a red herring, but I am suspicious that it happens RIGHT from power on. I have a MIDI monitor I found on the net...I will recheck so I don't mislead but I see some messages coming back from the An1x...I cannot see what is sent out to it, and I tried using MIDI THRU instead of out to see if I could see the messages but I couldn't. I do see "SENSE" messages coming back from the An1x, and I see at the very start "PITCH bend" or "pitch change" (I will check) messages coming from the An1x like one or two times at the beginning and then no more.

I keep feeling like things are changing under my feet...that after messing around I can suddenly get "Bad ID" again from An1x edit and nothing appears in the "add MIDI instrumet" menu...I will try some more things and if ity doesn't help, I feel like I ought to get it as close as I cvan and write down some settings and post them...see if anyone sees anything I am missing here...

Thanks.
