Subject: EX5 again

I still had to respond to Tom's post, but due to an unfortunate
crash of my PC, I lost the AN1x folder.
Anyway, I know XG and the DB50XG: I have it. For a board of this
price, it doesn't sound too shabby, granted.
But you can only tweak a few parameters. You don't even have an
envelope for the filter. In the area of tweakability, the AN1x
kicks XG's ass major big time.
Well, in the area of tweakability, the EX5 kicks the AN1x's ass
major big time. Believe, I have a DB50XG, an AN1x, and an EX5.
So forget about XG, it's a toy compared to Yamaha's AWM2, or the
synthesis engine of the JV's, or any so-called "rompler" for that
matter. XG is about sound generation, not about synthesis.
The AN1x doesn't differ much from the S&S ("rompler") synthesis
method. The extras that it has are that the two oscillators can
interact, and the waveform can be dynmically changed (edge control).
About the audio inputs of the EX5: they can only be used for
sampling. You can't route an audio signal through the filters.
Then again, this is a synth, not an effect box.
I just wanted to clarify that calling a synthesiser merely a
"rompler" doesn't give proper credit to such a phantastically
sounding piece of gear like the EX5.
