I think you'r confusing some AN1x terms here. Each Voice (Yamaha's term
for a preset) may have two scenes. Each scene may be completely
different or a variation of the primary scene.
With AN200 you only have one voice for both scenes and you can tweak

Again, two scenes in a voice. Your comparison is six of one, half a
dozne of the other. It works the same on the AN1x.

That's an unusual difference. I assume this was implemented due to the
difference in polyphony and layering modes?

How so? The AN1x has Variation (modulation type effects), Delay, and
Reverb (and EQ) sections. Each effect has many parameters to be tweaked
and one parmameter which can be altered in real time via the Common
Param in the Ctrl Matrix.
