The FS1R is a beast. Had mines for a few years now and she is programmed to makes that are fiercer than a raging tiger. The sound quality is exceptional and it complements analogue sounds really well. If you like punchy and agressive sounds the FS has em. It's also good at other stuff but it sounds best being hard so that's what I use it for.

Ah, but I had to buy a ticket to Malta (not cheap, let me tell you) and move
all of my stuff to the same address. Ever wondered what it costs to move an
AN1x and friends (and believe me, the EX5 has a BIG box) 2000 km southwards?
Man, this is becoming silly. :)

At the moment, I think my cat spends more time with the AN1x than I do. I'll
see if I can scan a few photos (cat scan?) and put them on the internet.

I had the AN1x for quite a while, when I spotted a brand new (I never buy
second-hand) K5000S in a shop, for a little over 1000 euro.
I played with it, and decided that it wasn't the synth for me - especially
not for that amount of money - because I'm definitely not into complicated
programming. Nowadays, I have an EX5, which is silver, good-looking, with a
large LCD and excellent keyboard. Pads and strings are to die for. I'll get
over the K5000S, no doubt.
In that same shop, I also decided to pass on the Ensoniq Fizmo. Very
uninteresting machine with a stupid name.
> Nest stop, the FS1r!
I would like one, but I'd want to spend less money on it than it costs now.
Oh well...

My guess is that Hotmail is located somewhere in the NYC area.

Sure, but didn´t we already had this? Anyhow, could you also put some
pics up of your silver EX5? I´ve never seen one in real life...i am
sure it looks better than the Motif...;)

Actually, I'm probably getting a little out-of-control even considering
another synth as I've still got much potential in my present setup, but
thanks for pointing out the TG77. You're right, it does appear to offer some
unexplored sound possibilities.
Cheers,
Phil

I had a FS1r and i sold it. If you are not into complicated
programming, forget the FS1r and rather get a DX200, if you want FM.
The sound of the FS1r is most definately outstanding. Simply
excellent. Some arp-sounds are even more fat from what i ´ve heard
coming out of the AN1x. But the interface, sorry my language, is
shit. If Yamaha ever will make a table-top or keyboard version of the
FS1r with lots of knobs and sliders...i most definately would buy it,
otherwise, if you are not into complicated programming (we are
talking about 3000+ parameters (8 FM-operators plus Formant-
synthesis) on the FS1r with only 4 knobs and 11 buttons...the whole
thing in a MU100r case)
The software editors that are out there are, compared with the AN1x-
edit...a big joke. You don´t even have full control over the formant-
synthesis.
But still the soundquality of the 1200+ preset voices are
outstanding, and you can feed it with DX7 presets.
