As much as I love the AN1X, it's not a general purpose instrument.
It's designed for a specific purpose. There's a number of inexpensive
modules that will give you a great piano sound suitable for live
work. They work okay in recordings (not as good as a Steinway grand)
as long as you have them mixed in a song with a lot of other
instruments. I use a Vintage Keys w/ the AN1X for more traditional
sounds.
The AN1X is great for making sounds that never existed before. With
the AN1X you can build your own musical instruments. I've spent a lot
of time the last few weeks dialing in sounds, then taking them to
rehearsal and further tweaking them. I would recommend designing five
or six sounds and really working with them and learning how to play
them. Try to find something original but playable. It's not that
easy, but it is fun.
