I'm using a similar setup as the original poster (PC with a SB16).
I've got the An1x connected to a Gravis MIDI interface plugged into the
joystick port of the SB16.. You mentioned you had the "split wire" MIDI
adaptor.. I started off with one of those but NEVER could get it to work
correctly.. I upgraded to the gravis interface (it cost about $30) and
haven't looked back.. The gravis plugs into the joystick port and has a
small box with extra joystick ports and the midi in and out.. It also has
send/receive led's which helps a lot with troubleshooting. I'm not even
sure you can still buy it (I don't see it on their web site), but my main
point is that you might want to upgrade the interface from the cheap split
cable to something a little better.
