Subject: For those of us that don't hook up to a PC

Just thought I'd mention, if there are others on the list that don't have their AN1x hooked up with MIDI, that it is still very much worth it to get AN1x Edit (search on 2all the words" for AN1x edit and in Yahoo it is the first entry...I think you can get it at Yamaha sites as well) and run it and just take a look. Play with the parameters. It gives a much better overview of the different configurations you can do.

Just playing with the feg and aeg parameters helped a lot in my understanding of which ones are level based and which ones are time based. Also you can see better what the syncs are doing, etc.

It took me this long (had my AN1x about 2 weeks now) to get around also to looking in the 2voice SEtup Guide". That's the little book that is written in both english and french. I thought it would only be useful with MIDI, but after paging through I see it is usable also if your synth is stand-alone. I tried "Red Lead" and it was a great patch I think! the funny thing is...the picture helps you better set it up from the control knobs than an1x edit, because the values are shown for the parameters on the real knob set on the machine.

I have a feeling yamaha has interest in an eyeglass company though...all their forms and the whole book are written so small and the printing is not even black. I used a xerox machine to make copies for myself, enlarged the original book by 145% and darkened the contrast. That helps a lot...plus I can write notes in the margin of my copy if I ever sell it I can still give the new owner a virgin book.

Just FYI.
