Not every Voice is programmed to use aftertouch. For example, those
patches which closely emulate vintage, analog patches omit AT as the
originals did not have this feature. Consequently the Ribbon
Controller may be programmed to affect similar changes that AT would
affect on modern synths. This is simply some programmers attempt at
authenticity ;-)

If you take a look at the AN1x Data List
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AN1x-list/files/Documentation/an1xe2.pdf

you'll find descriptions for the Factory-set Voice list. This should
help give you a better idea of which real time controllers are
programmed for what.

You may have noticed from the other posts in this thread that some
users find the AT sensitivity on the AN1x to be _too_sensitive.
There's no way to scale the AT transmitted from the AN1x to external
modules - if you feel similar to some of the others than you'll need
to 1) filter the reception of AT in your sw sequencer (as suggested)
or 2) alter the mod depth settings on your external MIDI module. The
alternative might have been a keyboard w/ AT sensitivity so weak that
you had to lean into the keyboard with your weight on it to trigger
AT ;-)
