Subject: Re: [AN1x-list] OT: sampler or computer

I tried Reaktor, DS-1, and Gigasampler. It seems like Giga has lowest latency,
but you have to get a sound card that is supported by Giga. Giga also supports
directsound (directx), which it means you can use any sound card that supported
by directx, but even good Directsound card could have latency up to
50ms in Giga. Right now, in my personal studio, I am using Gigasampler with
Sound Forge. Sound Forge with DirectX & VST give you unbelievable editing power.
My opinion, dumping through SCSI is too much work. By the time you make the sample,
and dump it through sampler, you might have forgotten your song idea.
I got rid of my Akai.

I plan on using it for both playing back phrases and as a drum module and
playing notes keyed off with my akai ax73. Yeah i was somewhat worried
about the latency issue. But I am planning on getting a faily beefy machine
if I go that way.

What are some decent samplers...sequencers...hardware wise

thanks again
Jake
