The author of AN1xEdit, Gary Gregson, is on this list as well, so I'll
choose my words carefully. :)

AN1xEdit basically copies the interface of the AN1x (and it adds a few handy
gadgets). So you have all the controls, and room for 128 patches in a set.
And even though I have 64 Mb of memory and some 10 Gb free disk space, I
always have to work with those 128 voices.

The reason for all this, if I understand correctly, that Yamaha asked him to
produce just that, and paid him for it. Now, a good rule of thumb for any
programmer who actually wants to make a living, is that you don't add any
features that no-one asked for. So AN1xExit is a very handy editor, but it's
not much of a librarian.

So if any changes would be made to AN1xEdit, Gary would have to do it in his
valuable free time, and I think Yamaha would have to give their consent as
well, although I'm not sure on that one.

What I was wondering myself, is whether the VST standard offers the option
of MIDI-only plug-ins. In that case, you could put a synth editor in your
VST application. Perhaps I should suggest it to Steinberg...
