No, MIDI is MIDI, and it comes from the early 1980's. It hasn't changed
in over 30 years. There are few interfaces with such a longevity, other
than power cables.

There used to be the "To Host" cables that you find on certain devices,
such as the Yamaha 01v digital mixer. This is essentially an RS232
interface with a special connector (mini-DIN) on one end.

MIDI interfaces from that era may not work with Vista, 7 and 8, but
that's probably because they require the host computer to do accurate
timing, or they simply never updated their drivers for the new OS. But
it has nothing to do with the MIDI connection itself.
