I also had the same problem with Win7 Sp1 X64.

I had copied the install executable from a CD, and saw what you saw. It was there running as a process but not actually doing anything.
It did this even in XP SP3 compat mode.

What worked for me? I rebooted the computer. Bam, clean install.

Why did this work? No idea . . . :)

But now I have the editor running smoothly and it's so nice to be able to see the matrix on one screen.

I just bought my AN1X from that guy in Alabama you see on eBay who always seems to have one or two of these along with numerous other Yamaha keyboards. Paid a little more than I wanted to, but dang, I think it's worth it. Great sounding synth, very capable. Love this thing.
