My beloved Vintage Keys has died. Beautiful synth. I bought it from a guy who had a pet mountain lion and several bobcats--one in the room with me.
So today's mission was to record a reggae song for the CD project using just the An1x and some drum loops. I set all the patch eq settings to 0.
I used the patch MKS Phased, shifted an octave down, for the bass. I shut the effects off which was a mistake. I'm going to put some tremolo and reverb on it for a spaghetti western sound. I ran it through my old Fender amp and a 15 inch speaker. Still, not enough thump. A bass should hit you in the chest.
So I made a quick bass patch, Osc 1 and 2 both saw wave, the edge turned all the way down for one (so it was a sine wave), halfway down for the other. Then I just messed with the filter a little. Since it was set up, I ran it through the amp too.
Then I doubled the bass. It was one of those simple riffs that are impossible to play (I am so used to the bass drum hitting on the one). I spent 4 hours trying to get it down. I went from 125 bpm to 82 before I could do it.
Used MKS Phased for the keyboard part, turned on all the effects, set the echo to tempo delay for a little echo. Again through the huge bass speaker. Lovely low fi sound.
And a little space weirdness from a patch calls Tambura. And since I had a theme going, I ran it through the amp too.
Now I have to write some words and get the singer recorded. Then who knows if it'll sound any good.
