It could be the latch function - or it could be a defective ribbon. I posted a while back looking for advice to fix my ribbon, which was responding erratically. It wasn't the connections or the setup, it was the physical ribbon. There was no solution, and the part is no longer available from Yamaha. So I disconnected the ribbon.
That was my backup AN1x; the one I use for gigging was fine - until last month. Now it too has a bad ribbon. It won't go back to the original setting when pressed, and sometimes changes parameters randomly, without being touched. Sometimes when I power up, ∗most∗ of the patches sound wrong (too much resonance, filter cutoff wrong). I can make them sound right by pressing the ribbon, but they may or may not stay right. So I also disconnected that ribbon one. :-(
I may try cleaning the ribbon (between the layers of ribbon material) or changing the tightness of the attachment screws, because those seemed to help on the first one. But it was only temporary. :-(
I believe the ribbon is a weak point, and will eventually fail over time or with a lot of use. Too bad; its function can be assigned to a knob so the ribbon isn't essential - but it is (was) a cool performance gesture. It also allowed e.g. a filter sweep and pitch change (with the wheel) to be done with one hand.
I'll post results ∗if∗ I manage to fix this one.
