Subject: AN200 problem – no sysnth sound

From: "takeoishi" <club_8@...>

Hi there,

I recently bought a cheap an200 where the seller had removed the plg 150an board. Since I already owned a plg 150an board, this seemed not much of a problem to me. So I opened the box, inserted my own plg board and pressed the ON-Button. But much to my surprise, when I tried to play the synth (Synthtrack/Keyboard button was illuminated), I could not hear a single sound. What I can hear is the rhythm part. I can also play single drum samples with the help of the keyboard, but the synth part always remains silent. Apart from the missing synth-part, the device works properly.

I already tried to reset the device to its original factory settings, but the problem remains. When I press the button combination [SONG], [PATTERN], and [EXIT], the display shows the following information: 'nrML' / '1.030' / 'krnL' / '0.500' / 'PLG' / '1.01'. What puzzles me is version 1.01 of the plg board. When following the description on Yamaha's homepage it shows 1.05 as the current version.

But can this really be the problem? Does anyone know what could cause the plg board to remain silent? Are there any hidden button combinations, system settings, etc. that (un)-mute the an-200?
Is there a simple way to test the board, as it could also be defective. The only thing I know is that it worked when I used it last time (already a few years ago and not as an200 board, but in combination with a sw1000 sound card). But if it were defective I wonder why it shows up on the screen as 'PLG' / '1.01'.

Any suggestions?
