Yeah, opening the case is simply a matter of removing the screws on the bottom - lots of them! No need to keep track of which goes where; they're all the same. When you flip it over, rest the top on something that won't damage the knobs (I use a couple of stragetically placed paperback books). The battery is the silver disc, about the size of a quarter; pops right out of the battery holder. Go buy one with the same number, pop it in. They're most commonly used as "security system" batteries these days, so hardware stores usually have them.
BTW, you can remove/replace the battery without losing patches in memory, by leaving the power supply plugged in and the power on while doing the battery swap. I'm sure this isn't "recommended" but I tried it once and it does work. There's only 15 volts in there... If you don't wanna to this, have some way to save & restore your patches.
