...if you measure the digital out with a bit metter will measure 20-Bits becouse PLG cards are 20-Bits, confirmed by kenton.co.uk tech support.

thers is no DA converter in the world that has true 20-Bits of Dynamic range and true 20-Bits of Noise Floor, True 20-Bits means = 122.16dB

anyway, the sound of the analog circuit design following the DA chip its far more important than the Specs.
for example: roland vs2480cd DACs vs. emu 1820m DACs.
universal audio 2192 vs. RME fireface 800 hava same DAC chips but...
burr audio vs. uaudio 2192 etc..
emu has flawless 120dB specs but roland sounds more analog, more real. more pleasant.
etc...
Kenton Plugstation digital outs listening with a hi.quality DAC vs. stock analog outs = has more upper harmonics, more details than any of the DACs included in all digital synths like AN1x, AN200 / DX200 , Cs6x, Motif, or any other.
the super good news its that the digital output can be re-clocked !!
= all digital synths have an internal stock/standard crystal wordclock inside to control the DA chips, but usually that crystal clock its not the best high quality, and has some jitter.
a standard wordclock can be out of tune & have jitter
jitter makes the sound: blurr & weak/less louder, less detailed and less stereo. becouse jitter makes harmonic cancelations in almost every frequency.
thanks to the digital out, you can re-clock the signal, and use a higher quality master wordclock,
like antelope ocx+10M +-0.03ppb berilium atomic clock, or <1ppm tcxo drawmer m-clock, or mutec iclock, or dCS, or teac esoteric g-08Br berilium with 0.05ppm of jitter. or BLA microclock, apogee big ben, lucid genx192 +-25ppm, rosendalh nanoclocks +-5ppm, etc...
or military goverment atomic clocks with 0.01ppb
from alesis ai-2 +-50ppm anything its great!
i dont like the included wordclocks in any soundcard, but with..
Lynx Aes16+Ls-adat with syncrolock turned off, and RME hdsp9632 or fireface with DDS turned off,
both allows to re-clock / sync two diferent digital clocks with same sample rate without digital clicks or pops.
if you want to sync two diferent sample rates , you need SRC. and a device to convert ADAT to AES/EBU
thers other devices that can reclock adat in stand alone, SRC or convert from ADAT to AES/EBU or both at same time: some are: kurzweil DMT+ADAT card, RME Adi4dd, 192dd, alesis ai-4, tc electronic digital konnect x32, Mutec, lavry le3000, mytekdigital, etc..
less jitter in the digital audio signal = Stronger, Louder, Puchier, Detailed, 3D sound, & more clear real Transparent sound,
becouse it has less harmonic cancelations at the DA chip.
you can hear the synth algorithms like never before!
im not saying that the onboard Alesis AL1201 DA chips or internal crystal wordclock in the Kenton Plugstation are bad, no. are better than some RME products. like HDSP9632-
but...
what I mean is that the Kenton Plugstation its not limited to the stock/onboard DA or crystal wordclock like most digital synths,
= can become like a super AN1x/PLG150-An/Dx ... with extreme higher quality.
