Subject: RE: [AN1x] the amazing disappearing modwheel

2nd switch at the bottom? Do you mean the Cntl/Device switch?

That’s a very powerful, yet arcane section of the AN1x. It, along with the
switch to the far right (Cntl No.) set up how the amazing number of control
devices act internally and externally. Factory sets the mod wheel for Scene
Mod… not me. I’ve set the Mod Wheel for being a Mod Wheel and dedicated the
Foot Controller to morph between scenes.

One item of note is if you are using the external software editor (AN1x
Edit) and import a bank (or maybe even a single patch.. I forget) an insipid
and often infuriating thing happens --- the Control section gets fubared.
(That is to say it dumps the settings of whoever programmed the patch and
uploaded it into your precious synth.) So let’s say you’re used to the
pressure pad doing what the factory settings have it do – act as a
controller. The evil is if you import something that has mapped the pad to
Scene Morph or Modulation or Volume or any of the other choices, then you
have to go manually fix it. Same thing goes for all of your knobs. They
can be re-mapped without you wanting them to… like I suspect happened to
Jimmy. He downloaded some patch where some fool had turned off his mod
wheel and uploaded it somewhere. You can (and SHOULD) learn to check all of
the controller settings in AN1xEdit before you dump into your synth.

So, we find a powerful section on the synth, but we find that it can make
you want to pull out your hair. Be warned… but don’t be afraid. Just study
the manual a while and you’ll get it. One thing I did which has made for
some really fun patch control is to have mapped one of my knobs to Tempo.
So baby-baby if you need to synch the arpeggiator/sequencer with the band,
just a teak on the ol’ knob and you’ve got a very cool dance synth. No
longer does the band have to synch with you. Makes for excellent leads
where you can come in with a crazy arpeggiation that makes you sound like
you play better than Rick Wakeman.

The AN1X has some amazing features. The 2nd switch at the bottom of the
control matrix turns off the mod wheel. Why you would want that feature
is beyond me. I don't know why it was off and I don't know how I
magically stumbled across it, but the problem is now solved.
