the bad news first:::

the Yamaha PLG cards do not output 24-bits, just 22-bits
e-mailed Kenton about this, tech (
tech@...) becouse i thought something was wrong
measured bit statistic activity is 22-Bit, plugstation adat outs are 24-Bits but PLG card outputs 22-Bit signal
according to:

22-Bits =
Dynamic Range = (Bits x 6.02) + 1.76
134dB, not bad!! ther is no AD or DA converter has that range, one of the best DACs are the lavry gold mk3 and are far from that!
Removing jitter from the kenton plugstation adat-outs with Lynx Aes16+ls-adat SynchroLock(TM) 3000:1
makes the sound a bit more detailed, powerfull, more upfront bass and removes a tiny blurr in the highs
didnt tested removing jitter by realtime SRC "reclocking", becouse most SRC algorithms/chips introduce some kind of side effect

listening any .wavs & .mp3 with the Kenton plugstation wordclock and SynchroLock(TM) turned off,
= usign the plugstation adat outs as master clock
it sounds a bit less powerfull "no upfront" and a tiny bit less detailed, but depends on the recording source material
Plugstation has a good internal wordclock but far from temperature controlled wordclocks like:
<+/-1ppm antelope ocx, mutec iclock, drawmer m-clock plus, or DDS clocks like apogee big ben, etc..
the plg150-an digital outs are set for -12dB = 0dB, a bit confusign at first...
i think they made it like that, to have a 12dB headrom for unison, distortion & +12dB 3-band Eqs
and has a digital output gain anyway... no big deal here
the plugstation analog outs1-2 are a bit hotter/louder 8dB more, or my quality AD was wrong calibrated...
then i recorded a few sounds/patches from adat outs, and from analog outs at full 44.1k 24-Bits
as you can see in the spectrograms analog outs are brighter=louder and brighter seems to be better,
but if you look closelly to the highs...
is easy to see that the analog outs have way less or almost not audio information "harmonics" in the upper highs
= is not my imagination, no need for zillion blinded a/b tests
also if you look at the noise floor, aka. the darkest areas,
you can see the added noise floor from analog DA+AD as less darker back ground
recorded with a high quality AD means that the highs and harmonic loss is not entirelly from the AD, its more likely probable that the loss in upper harmonics its from the plugstation DA, i was surpriced to hear how close the plugstation DA sounds to a/vs. a hi-quality DA feed from adat outs to lynx aes16+ls-adat
digital has "0" noise floor aka. 22-Bit -134dB and it feels nice,
both fixed 44.1k 24bits
if you want to listen 24-Bit files in WMP10/11 you need www.ffdshow.info or cole2k.net advanced media pack
and set ffdshow audio: uncompressed: all supported
but files are 14MB aprox. in .rar best quality, like 40MB uncompressed
the audible diference its verry small or Big, but depends on:::
listening enviroment, room acoustics, room acoustic treatment,
DA, speakes or headphones, headphone amplifier, speaker amplifier, cables
speaker crossover point, the ammount of wax in your ears, the room eq,
the eq itself, the ear, the happyness or sad factor/variable, computer fan noise, etc...
i think/hear that samson c que 8 + akg 240studio its a nice combo, thers always something better but this is
way better than for example behringer thruth 2031a with same DA
Yamaha Analog Physical Modeling Plug-in Board sounds a bit darker somewhat like real analog sci Proophet5
not like the new davessmith Prophet 08 or the new plugins that sound brighter Korg KLC AE, Arturia Jupiter-8v, Access Virus Ti, Roland V-synth, etc...
i guess that means it needs a bit more plugins like harmonic enhanncers, tape or tube, like 4front exiter, voxengo, etc..

i like verry much the mlt.saw, it gives the Yamaha sound its signature magic
the unison its nice
the stand alone an200 expert editor can work simultaneoulsly with other midi softwares and same midi port
multi-client rme hdsp9632 midi port ?
the xgworks an200 editor has verry diferent sounds than the stand alone an200 editor, big surprice there!
the original an1x .ans file its nice, has some patches i like
the jayb sounds are nice
