Hello!
OK, that's fine for your patches!
For the Casio CZ, don't be fooled by the old age of these synths, they are relatively complex (i have one, still going strong since it was made in 1981!). They were among the first "100% digital" polysynths available, and even if Casio had tried to keep as close as possible to the "analog world", it's sometimes different. A typical CZ whatever its number has 2 parallel DCO - DCF - DCA chains, ie each oscillator has its own filter and control amplifier, each one controlled by its own E.G.. The envelopes are not the classic ADSR type but can be made of 8 segments, each defined by the upper and lower level and the slope in between. And, last but not least, there is more waveforms (10)available than the usual square - saw - sine, which are present of course. Each oscillator has 2 outputs, either for 2 different waveforms or the same on both outputs but with one detuned.
That's the reason why i have kept my CZ: some sounds are impossible to get with most of the other synths, mostly because of the complex envelopes. You can find a lot more waveforms on other digital synths, but the Casio ones are not "perfect" on the whole frequency range (for example the saw turns into a "quarter sine" at high frequency) giving a curious "analog" feeling!
But that's worth trying, specially if you can compare "live" with a real Casio.
And if you really like the "CZ sound", buy one 2nd hand, they're quite cheap despite being "vintage" instruments, and very reliable. IMO the most interesting are the earlier (CZ101 or 1000, compact sized with only 4 octaves) or the last , the CZ1 (dynamic keyboard with aftertouch, 16 voices). The others have some "extra" features (on-board sequencer or effects) not very useful today.
Cheers
J.F.
