Oh, I definitely intend to keep my An1x. It's a great board. I just don't have a lot of time to really learn how to program it, so for me the plg150an within the motif is a good alternative for the time being. In one sense, I find basic editing of the plug in voices easier than on the AN1x. That's probably due in part to my inexperience with synth programming...
At any rate, the An1x isn't going anywhere.

Even if you do get the Motif, keep the AN. It's a lot easier than
using the PLG card from within the Motif.
I just traded my two AN cards for an AN1X. I found it very tedious to
always need software to turn off an arp if I liked a preset patch
sound. Also, on the AN1X, you edit a sound...you hit store and
confirm. On the PLG card, you edit a sound via software and must store
it as a file on the host synth. If you don't, it's gone. Then, you
must either "AUTOLD" it or manually load it back the next time you
boot the synth.
After having the AN1X for a few days, my opinion of Yamaha's AN
technology has increased. Basically, I like the sound of the AN1X
better than the AN cards regardless of its host.
The Motif ES is a fantastic board though. If you can swing getting it
and keeping the 1X, that would be ideal.
