Seems that way to me too. Even if only from an engineering perspective:
it generally helps to solve the right problem.
In particular, this is the Synth-DIY mailing list. A proposal to introduce

I struggle to see how this will work in a DIY setting. If someone shares a
design that includes a DRM component, why would I absorb extra cost to
include the DRM component which makes my personal build incompatible with
products of 1 other manufacturer. If I don't want equipment from a
manufacturer, I don't buy it. Problem solved.
Question, maybe I missed it (there is so much to read): if a manufacturer

I don't understand that either. My experiences in my tiny, tiny corner of
the secured computing world: the whole thing is a giant, expensive, ongoing
pain-in-the-ass. The value of what's being protected must be significant.
Enjoying the feeling of "I hate Behringer" doesn't strike me as that level
of value. Otoh, what do I know ... I thought ring tones were stupid and "At
the height of the craze in *2007*, global ringtone revenue hit an
estimated *$11
billion in a single year*."
