Heh - given that I did the R&D and wrote the code for the E950 Circuit 
Bent VCO, those secrets are still very much alive. For what it's worth, 
there are some very usable open-source implementations of the TI LPC 
synthesis which will run on bog-standard microcontrollers and the TI 
speech ROMs are out there if you look carefully. The principle advantage 
that Paul brought was he knew who to contact in order to clear a license 
to those ROMs so the E950 is "legal".
