Why use midi? Were you hoping to read Song Position Pointer?
Just send it an audio pulse from a dedicated track in your sequencer - make up a few template bars with 8ths or 16ths (or even dotted compound rhythms for those tricky jazz tracks ;-))
How to get that audio pulse up to a level/shape that triggers your module shouldn't be too hard - lots of people have looked at this
(I do this, but with Innerclock hardware, which might be overkill for your needs)
