[sdiy] Alternatives to Faders

This did occur to me since i have a trackball anyway...
but controlling one axis without affecting the other one is fiddly and even
if you used axis-select buttons to swicth control from X to Y axis, it still
makes it very difficult to do many of the things that are useful to do on a
fader bank, such as moving several faders at the same time.
This could be worked around in your solution by having "select" flags for
each track, running through the tracks selecting ones that you want to group
together and then adjusting their collective levels...but its complicated
and time consuming to do something that basic.
At least if you have 16 or 32 bank selectable faders (rotary encoded or
otherwise) you can group them together and adjust them en-mass as per
normal.
Having said all that, your idea is certainly better than a touchscreen in
my opinion.
