I think it's typically silk-screening on anodised aluminium.

No, the back rails are at 90° of the front rails, so the exact
distance from the front rails does not matter, as long as it does
not exceed the depth of the unit.

On the racks I've seen, the back rails were about 60 cm behind the
front rails. The unit is not screwed directly to the back rails.
On each side, a horizontal rail (given with the unit) is screwed
to the front and back rack rail. That's what supports the unit.
The thumb screws that you see at the front of the unit do not
support any weight ; they're just there to lock the unit in place.
You can think of it as a drawer.
The 19" racks you find in server rooms are different from the ones
you find in studios. They're around 80 cm deep.
