[sdiy] Lead-free solder `~~`

Has anyone here had good luck with lead-free solder?  A friend of mine used 
some of the stuff and said it caused some serious problems.  He had to 
desolder everything, clean it up and resolder using lead-containing solder.  
Anyone else have any similar experiences?
