IIRC, a good crimped connection forms a cold weld at the joint, and a good
crimp pin has an insulation support section, to help stop metal fatique
breaking the core. Both crimp and wire wrap, (one of the best logic wiring
systems ever - most mainframe backplanes were wire wrapped), were developed
by the military, ( I think the US Navy in particular), as more reliable
alternatives to soldered joints. In some cases the tinned section of a wire
acts as a piece of solid core, and can break due to vibration.

Moral - don't use cheap crimps!.
