Yep they are pretty simple inside, but you can change the octave - there is
a company doing refurbs with a dip switch to select bass/normal/lead, I
don't have the details for doing so but it should not be too hard to figure
out if you have a look inside. They do make a very good price on ebay
though, I think they are a great little instrument though that in some ways
is pretty unique and of course if Rolf endorsed them you know they must be
good :) Also they can sound quite fantastic if run thru fx, pedals, reverbs,
distortion etc etc.
I have often thought it would be cool if there was a modern version with
filter, envelope follower, LDR wah, 2 oscillators, and a longer keypad (say
3 octaves), LFO etc. The 350s is ok but too bulky and the two stylus thing
is awkward. A nice little compact up to date version would probably sell
really well. I love the stylus/keypad approach as it encourages a differnt
way of playing, the Roland PMA-5 takes this a stage further and I always
turn to that if I need inspiration, also it would be so cool to have a
stylus board with cv/gate- that thing would rock!
