Two thoughts:
1) Minimoog cases are made from Poplar. Seems to work pretty well and
accepts a nice variety of stains.
2) If you're going to put screws into wood and remove them later
(fixing a module front panel in place, etc.), make sure you use wood
screws (they have deep, wide threads that grip better in the soft
material).
3) If you're going to take those screws in and out on a regular basis
(anything I've put together and then have to fix later... and again),
you might want to think about putting threaded metal inserts into the
wood and using regular 'machine screws' to attach the panel
