The snare and toms on the 808 use white noise, but the hats and cymbals use
a multi oscillator array (6 square waves or there abouts)  

There are then a couple of filters (this is all from memory though mind),
one highpass, and one band.

I think your main problem is probably the noise source... The CR78 etc used
white noise for the hats and cymbal, and that's probably one of the main
reasons their hats sound different to the TR series.
