[sdiy] A new project in the planning stage...

Despite the fact that I am way too busy doing other things at the moment
(like getting married at the end of December)...I am already starting to
plan my next big project.

It is going to be a digital audio project, based on a Spartan 3E FPGA, 8
channels of A/D conversion, 8 channels of D/A conversion (both 24 bits @
192KHz), 64MB of ram, 16MB of Flash, Midi interfaces, but the one that I am
perplexed by is the ADAT optical interface I would like to add to it as well.

Now, the reason I am thinking ADAT is so I can easily interface this thing
up to a PC. It is possible to purchase cards for the PC that have a couple
of ADAT channels on them, thus making it very easy, in theory, for me to
cleanly interface my project to various PC based programs without having to
write any messy device drivers for Windoz XP.

However, finding info on how to make my own ADAT interface has, so far,
proved difficult at best. If anybody knows where I can find specs on the
ADAT protocol, that would be, hopefully, helpful.

Or, if anybody can think of an easy way to interface 8 channels of digital
audio to Windows XP...that does not involve ADAT, well, that would be
helpful as well...I am open to suggestions.

My plan is to implement the ADAT in the FPGA. All of this will be posted
to my website as I do it...(i.e...all open source)....
